About TechKea

Hands-on software reviews for people running small businesses, written to help you pick a tool and get back to work.

TechKea reviews software and tools for people running small businesses: freelancers, side hustlers, solo founders and small teams, wherever they work. Every page is built to help you make one decision quickly, and to show the evidence behind it.

Who it’s for

If you’re the person who picks the invoicing app, sets up the booking page and ends up paying for both, TechKea is written for you. You don’t have an IT department or a procurement team, and you don’t have a spare afternoon to compare a dozen pricing pages.

We cover the tools a small operation runs on: accounting, invoicing, website builders, email marketing, scheduling, project management, CRM, design, AI tools and security. You can browse every category, or start with our head-to-head comparisons if you’re already down to two options.

TechKea is written for readers anywhere in the world. Prices are listed in the currency the vendor uses, usually US dollars, and we note Canadian dollar pricing when the vendor publishes it.

Why a kea

The kea is an alpine parrot from the Southern Alps of New Zealand. It’s famous for taking things apart to see how they work, from hikers’ backpacks to the rubber trim on parked cars.

That’s the approach here. We’d rather open a tool up and use it on real work than repeat what its homepage says. The voice follows from that: curious, hands-on and plain-spoken, with a clear verdict instead of a pile of adjectives.

A kea is mostly olive green, but it hides a flash of orange under its wings that only shows when it flies. On TechKea, apart from the logo, that orange is saved for two things: a review’s overall score and the button to try the tool.

How we review

Every review follows the same pattern: the verdict first, then who the tool suits and who should skip it, notes from using it, pricing checked on the vendor’s own pricing page, real pros and cons, and the alternatives worth a look.

Scores come from one five-part rubric: ease of use, features for the target user, value for money, support and reliability, and integrations. How we test explains the weights, the math and the method.

Nothing hands-on is made up. Screenshots, walkthrough videos and observations come from our team’s own use of each tool, and if we haven’t tested something, we say so rather than guess.

How TechKea makes money

TechKea is free to read and paid for mainly by affiliate links. When you buy a tool through one of those links, the vendor or its affiliate network may pay us a commission. Every page with those links says so near the top, the links go through techkea.com/go/, and the price you pay is set by the vendor.

Commissions never decide a score, a ranking or whether a tool gets covered. Tools without an affiliate program get the same treatment and a plain link to their official site. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.

Two other sources may help later. Display ads may appear once traffic supports them, in clearly marked slots kept apart from reviews. And once we publish walkthrough videos on YouTube, YouTube may share ad revenue from them with us. The editorial policy sets out the rules that keep money and verdicts apart.

Who runs TechKea

TechKea is published by Aprici Inc. The TechKea team edits the site, and writes and tests the reviews. Every article carries the same byline, TechKea Team.

If TechKea’s owner or Aprici Inc. owns a product we cover, or a company connected to them makes it, we say so at the top of the page and don’t score or rank it. Our ownership policy explains how that works.
